South LA Teachers Participate in Environmental Institute

Dr. Erango Kelbisow (right), science teacher at Middle College School in South Los Angeles, blows CO2 into a cup causing the acid base indicator in water to change color as his colleague teacher Dayna Haray from the same school watches. This process mimics acidification caused by increased CO2 in the air related to climate change. Both teachers were participating in the first of three eight-hour sessions in the Environmental Teacher Institute held at LADWP headquarters in downtown.

LADWP Science Bowl 27th Annual, Regional Competition, Set for Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019

Each year a different theme is chosen for the LADWP Science Bowl that highlights an important, science, technological innovation or individual. The 2017 theme was “1917-2017, LADWP, 100 Years of Providing Power to Los Angeles. Last year the theme commemorated the Silver Anniversary of the Regional Competition and 25 Years of Innovation by the utility from 1993 to 2018. This year the theme highlights the 50th Anniversary of the first man landing on the moon in 1969.
