Student Athlete of the Week: N’Keal Harry

Harry currently leads the Sun Devils receivers’ corps with 62 catches for 928 yards and nine touchdowns. This helped Arizona State earn a 6-4 overall record and put them in second place of the Pac-12 South.

Student Athlete of the Week: Dericka Braden

Sophomore track and field runner Dericka Braden is eager to compete this season. To prepare for track season, Braden competes with the Cal State Los Angeles Cross Country team. She mentioned how cross country has made her stronger. “Cross country, at first it’s tough to become accustomed to running for so long and learning how to pace yourself,” Braden said. “In cross country, you have to dial back a little bit so you can last the whole workout.” A proud moment for Braden was when she qualified for the women’s indoor track squad last season. The UCLA Bruins found a glimmer of hope in their nightmarish season after routing California 37-7 on Saturday. In their first win of the season, junior wide receiver Theo Howard made two catches for 23 yards.

But if there is any legacy or uplifting lessons left by the 60s, it is that we must resist these new forms of unfreedom and falsification of history and continue to wage struggles of liberation on every level of life. For these struggles are clearly the indispensable way we understand, free and fulfill ourselves and the aspirations of our ancestors.  Indeed, these are struggles demanded by our inherent right to freedom, our natural need for justice and our irrepressible longing for a liberated life. And it is a struggle for and longed for life that yields ordinary and special spaces in which the human spirit is nurtured and constantly renewed, and we and other human beings know ourselves as sacred and at the center and subject of every day and hour of history we make.
