As the Thanksgiving holidays draws near, several nonprofits will give away free groceries to people in need.   Most of the events will be distributed on a first come – while supplies last basis.

The following are some of the community groups sponsoring Thanksgiving giveaways.

Brotherhood Crusade 

On Thursday, Nov. 21, from 10 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., the Brotherhood Crusade unites with L.A. Dodgers Foundation, Mookie Betts’ 50/50 Foundation, and Council President Marqueece Harris-Dawson to host Thanksgiving Grab and Go!

The drive-thru event will provide families with baskets containing a whole turkey, all the trimmings, vegetables, cornbread dressing, and more.  Also, the first 750 cars will receive gift cards.

The distribution take place at Algin Sutton Recreation Center, 8800 S. Hoover St., in L.A. The vehicle line will start at 90th St. and Vermont Ave.

“Brotherhood Crusade, along with its partners, is committed to helping with food insecurity, spreading kindness and joy, and ensuring that families in South Los Angeles have a memorable Thanksgiving celebration,” said President/CEO Charisse Bremond Weaver, who will be on-site. Joining her will Nichol Whiteman, CEO of the Dodgers Foundation and Mookie Betts, Dodgers outfielder and 2024 World Series Campion.

Mothers In Action

For the 29th consecutive year, Mothers In Action will join Ward Economic Development Corporation in hosting the Thanksgiving Day Senior Feed on Thursday, Nov. 28, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Gospel Mission M.B. Church

Pastor Raymond A. Dennis and the members of Gospel Mission M.B. Church will sponsor their 15th Annual Community Frozen Turkey Giveaway on Saturday, Nov. 23, at 10 a.m., at the church located at 7301 S. Avalon Blvd., in Los Angeles.

City of Pasadena 

Councilmember Tyron Hampton continues the Honorable John J. Kennedy Legacy with the Annual Community Thanksgiving Turkey Giveaway on Friday, Nov. 22 at 1:30 p.m., at La Pintoresca Branch Library, 1355 N. Raymond Ave., in Pasadena.

Co-sponsors include Mayor Victor Gordo, Vice Mayor Steve Madison, Councilmember Jess Rivas, Councilmember-elect Rick Cole the Honorable Janet Braun of South Pasadena, and Community Women Vital Voices.

Avalon LA 

A free Thanksgiving lunch is planned for Nov. 27, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at Avalon LA Resource Center, 6622 Crenshaw Blvd., in L.A.  The day of giving includes hot meals served to the first 500 people. Other amenities include live music, games, face painting and more.

“The importance of this event lies in its ability to bring our community together in a meaningful way. At Avalon LA, we believe that every individual, no matter their circumstances, deserves to feel the warmth of community and connection, especially during the holiday season,” said Cherly Clark, executive director of Avalon LA.

“Our Day of Giving is a reflection of our commitment to that belief – creating moments where people can come together, relax, and celebrate with one another. We’re excited to host this event at our new Resource Center, which will serve as a hub of support and empowerment for families and individuals in need.”
