Taste of Soul not only provided food and fun to the community, but also opportunities for attendees to find employment. The Los Angeles World Airports (LAWA) Pavilion and Los Angeles County provided information for people to apply for jobs.
“We decided to come with a big pavilion and not just bring jobs that work for LAWA, but to bring some of our partners that work at the airport,” said LAWA Chief People and Culture Officer Robert Lowe. “While there’s over 3000-plus people that work for LAX, there’s over 50,000 that work at LAX.”
TSA plans to have openings for a transportation security officer (TSO) as early as January on usajobs.gov, according to TSA human resource specialists Yolanda Johnson.
“This is a great opportunity for TSA to come out to the community,” Johnson said. “It’s so good that I can represent my community at my job and also bring my job to the community.”

“We work with SEIU, so we are a unionized company,” said C&W Services director of operations at LAX Jonathan Muralles. “We’re a diverse company. Upper management is all diverse and by women.”
The LAWA Pavilion also provided information on how businesses can partner with LAX. DFS, a luxury travel retailer that provides duty-free goods has jobs on careers.dfs.com.
“We have store managers, sales, associates, our support staff, warehouse and source supervisors as well,” said DFS HR manager Haleigh Castro.
L.A. County Pavilion held job interviews for attendees.
“We have 32 different departments that are represented on the premises,” said LA County director of personnel Lisa Garrett. “They all have folks who are coming out, giving information about their organization, how to get employed with the county.”
Stacie Ottley represented the department of children and family services (DCFS) at their hiring event. A career development internship is being offered to current and former foster youth. The internship can lead to a permanent position, according to Ottley.
“What it means to provide jobs is stability, they have a sense of normalcy,” Ottley said. “They also have a way to be gainfully employed so that they can afford themselves into adulthood.”

“I know that the need is for people to work,” said department of social services administrative manager Kimberly M. Green. “What a joy to be at the Taste of Soul where there’s over 400,000 individuals.”
The L.A. County Development Authority offers first-time homebuyer Assistance along with job opportunities.
“We have three positions that are ongoing, reoccurring,” said L.A. County development authority human resources analyst Vanessa Icamen. “Our development specialist III, which is a housing project manager. A maintenance worker II position and we also have a maintenance for electrician position that we’re hiring for.”
