The Day I Became Black- A Biracial Experience in America

The Day I Became Black tackles themes in society, not just through a Black lens, but through a Biracial one as well. Multi-racial people are growing three times faster than the population as a whole, not to mention people who come from different religious/political backgrounds and people who have gender identity issues. We’ve all been forced to identify at one time or another, or worse, feel like a fraud trying to identify with more than one group. This show finds the comedy in the struggle of trying to fit in and trying to just be yourself.

“The Maya in Me ”Shares One Woman’s Turbulent Love Story Guided by Dr. Maya Angelou’s Wisdom

“The Maya in Me” is the highly anticipated one-woman show written and performed by family therapy counselor, actress and writer Dr. Tameka Bob. As the show’s title indicates, “The Maya in Me” is an intimate visual piece that uses poetry written by the late literary icon Dr. Maya Angelou to parallel real life moments from Dr. Bob’s life and struggles with love.  

A One-Woman Show: Vanessa Bell Calloway as Zora Neale Hurston  

Vanessa Bell Calloway, actress known for her role in Coming to America and recurring role in the television show Shameless, spoke to the Los Angeles Sentinel Newspaper about her upcoming one-woman show Letters from Zora.  Letters from Zora, produced by Gabrielle Denise Pina and directed by Anita Dashell-Sparks, unveils the intimate life of writer Zora Neale Hurston.   

Two African American Females Star in Disney’s ‘Beauty and the Beast, the Broadway Musical’
