Los Angeles-area ministries will observe the Thanksgiving holiday with a range of activities. The following list highlights some of the worship services, dinners and other plans shared with the Sentinel.
Bethel Missionary Baptist Church – The Rev. Dr. Reginald A. Pope, pastor of Bethel, announce that his congregation will partner with the Black Peace Officers Association to share turkeys and food items with the community on Saturday, Nov. 23 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m., on the church campus located at 10905 S. Compton Ave., in Los Angeles. A second turkey distribution to the community takes place on Tuesday, Nov. 26, from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m.
On Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 28, a one-hour worship service will start at 9 a.m., followed by a community dinner at 10 a.m., which will offer intercessory prayer and requests for other spiritual assistance. Also, the church will participate in the annual Watts Christmas Parade on Sat., Dec. 7, at 12 p.m. The event begins on 114th St. and Central Ave. and travel north to 103rd St., and then east to Grandee Ave. Pope will serve as the parade’s Grand Marshall. Brookins-Kirkland Community AME Church – Pastor Mary S. Minor announced that Thanksgiving service begins at 9 a.m. on Thursday, Nov. 28, at in the sanctuary at 3719 W. Slauson Ave., in Los Angeles. Crenshaw Christian Center – Pastor Frederick and First Lady Angel Price have kicked-off the 28th annual Christmas Store Toy Drive. The collected items will be presented to young children and teens at the Union Rescue Mission. New and unwrapped board games, action figures, Lego sets, hot wheels, sports jerseys, college apparel, Barbie and other dolls, watches, jewelry, lotion sets, electronic games, cameras, headphones and gift cards are some of the suggested items to contribute. Also, “Gospel Komedy Slamm” will be held on Friday, Nov. 15, at 7:30 p.m., in the CCC main auditorium at 7901 S. Vermont Ave., in Los Angeles. Several Christian comedians are slated to appear. The donation is $20 in advance or $15 for groups of six or more. Tickets are $25 at the door.
Faithful Central Bible Church – The church will partner with the city of Inglewood and other organizations to distribute free turkeys on Monday, Nov. 25, at 9 a.m., The Tabernacle, 321 W. Eucalyptus Ave., in Inglewood. Recording artist Snopp Dogg is scheduled to participate.
Family of Faith Christian Center – FOFCC will host two holiday programs on the campus located at 345 E. Carson St., in Long Beach, said Bishop Sherman A. Gordon, senior pastor. “A Day with the FBI,” focused on bullying and Internet safety, is set for Sunday, Nov. 17, at 9:30 a.m. The speaker will be Martice Hawkins, the agency’s L.A. community outreach specialist. Love, Peace and Happiness Family Church – Bishop Leon and Dr. Jacqueline Martin and LPH members will host their free annual pre-Thanksgiving dinner on Sunday, Nov. 24. The event will be held following the 11 a.m. worship at the LPH location, 4951 S. Figueroa St., in Los Angeles. In addition, Thanksgiving Day Service is planned for one-hour on Thursday, Nov. 28, at 11 a.m. Songs, testimonies and a sermon by Bishop Martin will be presented. Each attendee will receive a bottle of anointed oil.
Praises of Zion Missionary Baptist Church
“Friends Helping Friends,” a community outreach and resource fair, will be held on Saturday, Nov. 23, in the church parking lots at 8222 S. San Pedro St., in Los Angeles, said Pastor J. Benjamin Hardwick. The agenda includes free food, games, clothing, shoes, haircuts, showers and music. Chairperson Cheryl Roach requests volunteers as well financial contributions.
