Thirty Youth From NSBE Jr. of Southern California Attend the NSBE Fall Regional Conference in Las Vegas

On Friday, November 9, 2018, the Southern California chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers left South Los Angeles to attend the Fall Regional Conference (FRC) in Las Vegas. The theme of the FRC is Explore. Engineer. Elevate. With sponsorships from Best Best & Kreiger LLP and the West Basin Metropolitan Water District, NSBE Jr. of So Cal was able to sponsor twenty-eight young people, ages 9 to 17, to the FRC where they will compete in a math and science competitions as well as the following STEM workshops: 

NASA Appoints Vanessa Wyche, First African-American Woman Deputy Director of the Johnson Space Center

Black women continue to lead as Vanessa Wyche takes on the role of Deputy Director of the NASA Johnson Space Center. I am incredibly humbled to take on this role at JSC, and also excited to assist Mark with leading the home of human spaceflight,” Wyche said in a statement Wednesday of her appointment as center deputy director. “I look forward to working with the talented employees at JSC as we work toward our mission of taking humans farther into the solar system.” To learn more about Vanessa Wyche visit NASA here.
