Brookins –Kirkland Community AME Church will recognize the leadership of Pastor Mary S. Minor with an appreciation service on Sunday, October 15, at 3 p.m., in the sanctuary located at 3719 W. Slauson Ave., in Los Angeles.
The theme is “Our Pastor Shows Love Still Works” based on I Corinthians 13:1-13. The program is sponsored by the Steward and Trustee Boards.
“Pastor Minor continuously provides compassionate, spiritual and executive management leadership to our congregation,” said Gregory Robinson, steward pro tem. “Her unwavering commitment to Christ, His church and the community inspires us to give God our best on a daily basis.”
Minor was appointed to BKCAME in November 2015 by Bishop T. Larry Kirkland, Sr., then-presiding prelate of the 5th Episcopal District of the AME Church. During her tenure, the church has increased membership and finances, relocated to a new edifice and established new ministries such as a Youth Worship Service and the Senior Adult Ministry.
Pastor Darryl Walker, and the members of New Philadelphia Church will be the special guests. Ordained an AME itinerant elder in 1977, Walker headed eight AME prior to current appointment. A native of Denver, CO, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Theology and Master’s of Divinity degree.
His community service includes being a member of the executive boards of the NAACP, the Black Health Care Coalition, the Foundation for Hospices in Sub-Saharan Africa, Inc. in Washington, DC, and CEO of the Henry McNeal Turner Early Learning Center in Oxon Hills, MD.
“The entire greater L.A. area is welcome to join us for a joyous time in the Lord,” said Robinson, who added that reception will be held from 1 p.m. to 2:15 p.m.
