AME Lenten Caravan Donates to Nonprofits

Eight AME churches recently united to present the Community Lenten Caravan (CLC), a series of services held in L.A. and Pasadena leading up to Resurrection Sunday. The goals were spiritual renewal for believers and raising funds to assist two local nonprofits. School on Wheels of Los Angeles and Alkebulan Cultural Center of Pasadena received all of the proceeds from the CLC services. Lay Witness Night Highlights AME SoCal Conference

Bishop Clement W. Fugh, presiding prelate of the Fifth Episcopal District of the AME Church convened the Southern California Annual Conference (SCC) this week at the LAX Hilton Hotel, 5711 W. Century Blvd. in Los Angeles. The pastors and members of the 55 churches in the conference will participate in the business sessions, workshops and worship services. The gathering concludes with the Closing Worship and Commissioning Service on Sunday, October 29.  The Rev. Darryl Walker of New Philadelphia AME Church is the host pastor of the conference. Among the highlights is Lay Witness Night on Friday, October 27, at 7 p.m.

Brookins-Kirkland AME Shows Appreciation to Pastor Minor

Brookins–Kirkland Community AME Church saluted the spiritual and executive leadership of Pastor Mary S. Minor during an appreciation service on October 15. The theme was “Our Pastor Shows Love Still Works” based on I Corinthians 13:1-13. The Steward and Trustee Boards sponsored the program. Pastor Darryl Walker and the members of New Philadelphia Church were the special guests. The pastor’s family also attended the service. In addition, Minor took time to recognize Trustee Willie Mayes (right) on his recent appointment as an air traffic controller for the Federal Aviation Administration.

The Southern California Conference AME Women In Ministry (SCC WIM) will host their Annual Convention on Wednesday, Oct 25, from 12:30 p.m. to 5 p.m. at the Los Angeles Hilton Airport Hotel. Brookins –Kirkland Community AME Church will recognize the leadership of Pastor Mary S. Minor with an appreciation service on Sunday, October 15, at 3 p.m., in the sanctuary located at 3719 W. Slauson Ave., in Los Angeles. The theme is “Our Pastor Shows Love Still Works” based on I Corinthians 13:1-13.
