Our agency – the South Coast Air Quality Management District (SCAQMD) – recently paired up with the Los Angeles Sentinel for a unique partnership to broaden outreach to the communities that both we and the publication serve. This article and future features will share who the SCAQMD is and what we are doing, in collaboration with many others, to improve Southern California’s air quality.

Convened in secret, in the private dining room of Mr. Chow’s restaurant in New York, they waited for a woman who has achieved more in her 75 years than one could with two lifetimes. Born into a talented clan of musicians on December 12, 1940, by 1962 she was one of the 40 biggest hit makers of the entire rock era.

HIV/AIDS continues to disproportionately impact African-American and Hispanic communities, and in an effort to spread awareness and to educate the public about the disease, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention and The First Ladies Health Initiative recently kicked off “Doing It,” a CDC campaign focused on HIV and AIDS awareness.

Spirit Awakening Celebrates 20 years of service with poetry reading

The Spirit Awakening Foundation celebrated 20 years of serving youth in the Juvenile Justice System Dec. 5 at USC’s Bovard Auditorium with the Voices of the Unheard/Gratitude.

“The importance of what we do is to continue to grow by showing awareness of the issues juvenile justice youth face. We do profound work,” said Akuyoe Graham, founder of Spirit Awakening.

Defense rests after testimony Porter exceeded his duty

The defense rested Friday in the manslaughter trial of Baltimore police officer William Porter after a department captain testified Porter went beyond his duty to assist the driver of the police van in which Freddie Gray’s neck was broken.

Brandy Norwood to Play Roxie Hart in ‘Chicago’

Producers Barry and Fran Weissler and the Nederlander Organization announce that GRAMMY Award-Winner Brandy Norwood will play “Roxie Hart” when the production returns to Los Angeles at the Hollywood Pantages Theatre. Chicago the musical will play a limited one-week engagement from April 26 – May 1, 2016.
