Los Angeles City Council President Herb J. Wesson, Jr.’s annual Winter Wonderland community event got a little bit sweeter this year when he surprised 350 deserving families with a free, refurbished computer and four years of internet access. Wesson collaborated with OurCycle L.A., a public private partnership between the City of Los Angeles, Everyone On, human-I-T and Isidore Electronics Recycling among others, to ensure residents of his council district were provided an opportunity to receive the free computers. The program’s goals include maximizing the use of the city’s salvage computers, providing job training and employment for individuals with high barriers to employment, minimizing the city’s electronic waste footprint, and helping bridge the digital divide in Los Angeles.
