CELEBRATION OF LIFE: CLARENCE WOODS ZURITA May 21, 1931 – May 11, 2020

Clarence Zurita was born on May 21, 1931 to Mary Zurita in San Pedro, California. Clarence never knew his mother and would become orphaned at a very young age. He was blessed to be placed with the Woods Family in Watts, California, where he was embraced and reared in a loving home. It was at the family business–Woods Family Auto Parts–where Clarence developed a love for cars and the skill to fix almost anything…although many times in a unique way of his own! He attended David Starr Jordan High School and held many state records, some for decades, in Cross Country Track events. A few years after graduating high school, Clarence was drafted into the United States Army, where he served one tour of duty, fought in the Korean War and received an Honorary Discharge.

Mayor Garcetti Announced DWP Will Not Shut Off Services Due to Non-Payment for the Rest of 2020; Rent Freeze Extended Another Year

Thursday, May 7, Mayor Eric Garcetti provided an update on COVID-19 Response efforts. The Mayor previous announced a 3-level analysis that will be in use, as Los Angeles gradually opens local businesses. The brick-and-mortars are still not allowed to let people come inside, but there is curb side assistance available for florists, car dealers, and stores that sell toys, books, clothing, sporting goods, and music. Community spaces that are looking to open by Saturday include trails and golf courses. Eric Garcetti provided updated data surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak, these numbers hold a deeper value, as they stand as major factors in deciding what future firms will open in L.A. The Los Angeles City Mayor shared the updates within the departments of Power and Water.

LADWP Science Bowl 27th Annual, Regional Competition, Set for Saturday, Feb. 23, 2019

Each year a different theme is chosen for the LADWP Science Bowl that highlights an important, science, technological innovation or individual. The 2017 theme was “1917-2017, LADWP, 100 Years of Providing Power to Los Angeles. Last year the theme commemorated the Silver Anniversary of the Regional Competition and 25 Years of Innovation by the utility from 1993 to 2018. This year the theme highlights the 50th Anniversary of the first man landing on the moon in 1969.

At its core, we support Measure W because of its impact on empowering African-Americans and other communities of color in Los Angeles County – making business pay their fair share for the clean water that Black and brown residents are most likely, otherwise, to be deprived of. Measure W is a progressive tax that spreads the compliance burden equally with no groups paying more than their fair share.

LADWP Board Approves Shared Solar Pilot Program for Renters

The program, which still needs approval of the City Council, would have the LADWP install large-scale photovoltaic solar plants in and near the L.A. basin, and allow customers with accounts associated with multifamily dwelling units to sign up to buy for blocks of energy. The program would allow them to replace a portion of their electrical energy use at a fixed rate for
