Senate and House Approve Bipartisan Prison Reform Bill 

Members of Congress from both parties have come together recently, to approve a prison reform bill that will allow for employees to store their firearms securely at federal prisons, restrict the use of restraints on pregnant women, expand compassionate release for terminally ill patients, place prisoners closer to family in some cases, authorize new markets for Federal Prison Industries, mandate de-escalation training for correctional officers and employees, and make improvements to feminine hygiene in prison, among other things. 

African Americans Win Throughout California 

Dems took over the House, but not the Senate. California has a new governor, according to LA vote, as of press time, Tony Thurmond will lead public instruction and rent control laws will remain as they are:  just some of the highlights of the country’s midterm election November 6.

Taste of Soul Remembers Kids with This Year’s Children’s World

Since its inception, Children’s World has been a part of the Taste of Soul, now thirteen years strong as the Los Angeles’ largest family oriented street festival. Of course there can be no family event without something for the children and TOS officials aim to make this part better every year. This year, participants included Disney’s new “Nutcracker” movie reps, with a photo booth for the kids, chesstutors.com and Vision to Learn, offering free eye exams.
