The Los Angeles Rams are now 0-2 as they lose to the Las Vegas Raiders in a preseason game at So-Fi Stadium on Saturday. Fans were excited to attend the arena and over 50,000 people were in the building.
In a highly competitive game, the Rams showed some good signs. Quarterback Bryce Perkins threw for 208 yards on 26 completions, two touchdowns and rushed for 41 yards.
Perkins played the entire game and carried the Rams offense. The accuracy, decision making and going through reads was highly impressive.
His work in the pocket displayed his ability to create plays on his own and escape tough defense. Perkins completed eight receptions to WR’s JJ Koski and Tutu Atwell.
Perkins talked about escaping the pocket too quickly.
“Yeah, I mean, sometimes I get hung up on that first ready and also kind of just leaving early. Got to clean up the trying to escape too quick. The line did a great job tonight and a couple of those plays where I escaped and I could have stayed in and kind of read through the progression.”
Rookie Linebacker Chris Garrett showed a lot of potential. Garrett’s technique demonstrated his finishing ability and gave the Rams’ defense momentum throughout the first half.
The young standout played a huge game as he battles for a roster spot. The Rams coaching staff was highly impressed.
Head coach Sean McVay said, “He did a great job. You can see he was applying pressure consistently. Big second quarter. And really you’ve seen him start to make steady improvements.”
The rookie Tutu Atwell caught eight of his team-high 13 targets for 46 yards. McVay said he sees early growth from Atwell.
“I thought he did a nice job out-breaking routes where he could feel his suddenness,” McVay said. “It was good, aggressive hands. Just want to see him continue to build on that.”
Another good performance from the Rams defense and they will look to clean up the penalties. They were flagged 10 times for 84 yards.
There are three weeks to go until the season opener. The Rams will sort through their current roster to make adjustments.
