The Sofi Stadium in Inglewood, California hosted the week two preseason hometown showdown with the Los Angeles Rams at Los Angeles Chargers.

The theme of the game was the word – new. New head coach for the Los Angeles Chargers, a new L.A. Chargers local college rookie and a new kickoff rule.

The new head coach for the Los Angeles Chargers Jim Harbaugh, is not new to football. He comes from a football-coaching family (his father and brother). Harbaugh, coached the University of Michigan to a National Football Championship last season. Fans are optimistic he will do the same for the L.A. Chargers.

Brenden Rice, son of Pro Football Hall of Fame wide receiver Jerry Rice, is new with the Chargers. The rookie Rice, out of USC was the 7th round pick in the NFL Draft. A lot was new this preseason game, including the new kickoff rule which is to encourage more returns.

The L.A. Rams allowed their assistant head coach/pass game coordinator Aubrey Pleasant to substitute as head coach for Sean McVay.

“They allowed me to say what I thought, whether it was more run, more pass, more aggressive or not,” Pleasant said.

The Los Angeles Rams was the first to score, with a Field Goal. The score was 3-3 for most of the first half. The Chargers pulled ahead before the second half leading the LA Rams 6-3.  The Rams won the preseason game 13-9.
