Newsom Shares Vision for California in Inauguration Speech 

Former Mayor of San Francisco and Lt. Gov. Gavin Newsom was sworn in as California’s 40th governor on Monday to the backdrop of serene gospel music provided by Compton-based choir Voice of Destiny. Newsom’s first speech as governor touched on his vision for California and his plans to keep the Golden State in the national spotlight. 

LA County Offers $10,000 Reward in Carson Shooting

Just before 9 p.m. on June 16, a light-colored, four-door sedan stopped in front of the family’s home in the 22700 block of Island Avenue and someone inside the car opened fire. Lauvai was shot in the chest and died at St. Francis Medical Center. Another family member’s leg was grazed by a bullet.

L.A. County Gets $40 Million for Housing and Infrastructure

The state of California recently awarded $40 million to Los Angeles County via three grants to support the development of affordable apartments and related infrastructure projects in the County’s unincorporated areas, said county officials. The projects will generate more than 320 new affordable apartments in a region beset by “skyrocketing housing costs”, they said.

GLAAACC CELEBRATES 25 YEARS OF HONORING BUSINESS LEADERS

Awards were given in nineteen categories including a special legacy award presented to Los Angeles World Airport (LAWA) Chief Development Officer Bob Gilbert for his four decades of service to the aviation industry.  GLAAACC’s Special Recognition Awards went to Jeffrey Brunswig, Operations Manager, Hensel Phelps Construction; Louis Carr, Chief Information Technology Officer at Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP); and John Harriel, Project Superintendent, Morrow-Meadow

Resentencing and the Decriminalization of Cannabis 

The Board of Supervisors unanimously approved a motion by Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas calling on the Office of Cannabis Management, in collaboration with various Los Angeles County departments and community stakeholders, to develop a countywide plan to facilitate the resentencing of minor cannabis convictions.
