Saint Hillrie Church of God in Christ hosted their annual Choir Day concert on Sept. 14, at 88th Street Temple COGIC. Since its inception in 2006, The Hale Foundation has donated tens of thousands of dollars to provide a helping hand to low-income families, children and young adults. In addition to providing money for educational scholarship donations, The Hale Foundation has donated to organizations that give assistance to children affected by homelessness and malnutrition. Other beneficiaries of The Hale Foundation include: the United Negro College Fund, the L.A. Southwest College Education Foundation, Inner City Arts, Parents of Watts, St. Jude Children’s Hospital and L.A. Child Guidance Clinic.
Senior track and field standout Ameer Muhammad helped the Crenshaw boys track and field team qualify for the State championship. He ran a leg for the 4×100 relay squad who had been successful throughout track season. Muhammad competed in the 100m dash, the 200m dash, and the 4x100m during the CIF State championship.

High school football teams throughout the Southland united at El Camino College to clash in the 11-ON Passing Tournament and Lineman Competition, hosted by the Rams and Nike. The Crenshaw Cougars baseball team finished their season strong with a 17-4 win over the Los Angeles Romans. Runs in the earlier innings gave the Cougars an advantage, sound batting would sustain their dominance.
For the sixth consecutive year, the Carson Colts girls track team won the City Section title on Friday. The team scored 130 points, 76 more points than second place winner Granada Hills. The Palisades boys team snapped the Dorsey Don’s three-year Championship streak. Carson reigned over the sprinting events with junior Ryan Lacefield pacing the 200m and the 400m. The Colts finished the 4x100m in first place in 48.61s and came in second in the 4x400m in 4:03.23. “We just want to continue the legacy of our previous track stars and we want to be on top just like them,”

88th Street Temple Church of God in Christ partnered with L.A. County Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas to bring snow to the 89th Street and Vermont Ave. neighborhood on Jan. 5. The free event, Winter Wonderland 2019, drew many community members of all ages. Both children and adults delighted in experiencing real snow along with enjoying a range of activities.
