The Crenshaw girls’ and boys’ basketball teams are excelling through the unprecedented 2020-2021 season. Both teams carry a perfect overall record, the girls at 4-0 and the boys at 3-0 overall, as of May 23.
Starting in Fall 2021, Crenshaw High School will be implementing a new educational program that helps students apply academic subjects into real-life. The program is called 3DE, it is an interdisciplinary program that is in conjunction with Junior Achievement.
The pop-up exhibit is located at Lion Arts in Leimert Park, on 4325 Degnan Blvd., in Los Angeles. The show, which will continue until March 18, is another example of Brown’s talent for creating stunning pieces embellished with intricate details that immediately capture the attention of the viewer.
Marques Johnson made historical strides in basketball; he ultimately had an All-Star NBA career. He also was an actor, starring in several movies including “White Men Can’t Jump,” along with being a sports analyst and radio host. Johnson is currently a television color commentator for the Milwaukee Bucks.
Highlights of exceptional students in 2020
Sophomore guard Payshance Walk was determined to have a successful season with the Crenshaw girls’ basketball team. Her efforts and diligence helped the Cougars to a 22-7 overall record and 10-0 record in the Coliseum League.
This past season, sophomore Payton Walk helped the Crenshaw girls’ basketball team become City Section contenders. Although this was her first year playing varsity, she was co-captain of the team.

Senior guard Kailyn Watkins helped give the Crenshaw Cougars girls basketball team a competitive edge this season. Her contributions helped the Cougars get a 22-7 overall record and a perfect 10-0 record in the Coliseum League.
A slam dunk exudes a certain level of amazement and excitement among basketball fans. Crenshaw senior forward Justin Cornelius works to provide that to those who watch him compete.
The dawn of a new decade marks a series of innovative projects and initiatives to look forward to. If the theme of 2019 was about fighting to keep South LA intact as outside developers encroached further into our community, the beginning of 2020 is about spreading a message of defiance through unity and Black ownership.
Major news stories of the year 2019
In their first of two matches this season, the Crenshaw Cougars boys and girl’s basketball teams defeated their rivals, the Dorsey dons. Both teams started their games strong in front of an away crowd. This was the third consecutive away victory against Dorsey for the Cougars.
The Manual Arts Toilers advanced to the semifinals of the Division II CIF City Section playoffs after shutting out the Kennedy Cougars 41-0.
Junior second basemen, Jasper Anderson, knows to never back down from adversity. Playing baseball and football at Crenshaw high school presented new challenges for him. Rising to the occasion by working hard helped him develop new skills and made him a reliable figure on both teams.
