Charter, Comcast Offer 60 Days of Free Internet Service to Homes with Students

 As many Southland educational institutions are closing as a result of the coronavirus pandemic, a pair of internet providers today announced plans to provide free internet to households with students. Charter and Comcast announced Friday that they would offer 60 days of complimentary broadband to homes with K-12 or college students. For households that do not already have a subscription, Charter said that beginning Monday, it will provide free Spectrum broadband and Wi-Fi up to 100 Mbps, and that installation fees will be waived. L.A. County Confirms 8 More Coronavirus Cases, Bringing Total to 40

Los Angeles County health officials confirmed eight more local cases of coronavirus today, including three with unknown
sources of exposure, further increasing the evidence of “community transmission” of the illness.

The eight new cases bring the overall county total to 40, including four cases being overseen by Long Beach health officials and one by Pasadena health officials.

Los Angeles City Housing Department to Limit Services Due to Coronavirus

The Los Angeles Housing and Community Investment Department announced that to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, the department today temporarily closed its five public counters. HCIDLA will maintain operations but limit the scope of its work to prevent exposure to both staff and the public, according to Rushmore Cervantes, the department’s general manager. The HCIDLA hotline will continue service during regular business days and hours. LACoFD COVID-19 Exposure

On March 9, 2020, the Los Angeles County Fire Department (LACoFD) responded to a patient in cardiac arrest. Our personnel provided our standard excellent patient care and managed to resuscitate and transport the patient to a local area hospital. Unfortunately, the patient passed away. The County of Los Angeles Department of Public Health (DPH) later confirmed that the patient had COVID-19. LACoFD expresses its deepest sympathies and condolences to the family and friends of the patient who sadly succumbed to this illness.

Los Angeles Master Chorale Cancels Presentations, Public Gatherings and Education Programs Due to COVID-19

Amidst rising concerns regarding the COVID-19 global outbreak, Governor Newsom’s strong recommendation that all gatherings of 250 or more people across the entire state be canceled, and the County of Los Angeles’s order that The Music Center close its theatres, The Los Angeles Master Chorale and the other resident companies of The Music Center (Center Theatre Group, LA Opera, and LA Phil), along with TMC Arts / Glorya Kaufman Presents Dance at The Music Center, will close their theatres (Ahmanson Theatre, Dorothy Chandler Pavilion, Mark Taper Forum, and Walt Disney Concert Hall) effective today, March 12, 2020, and cancel all presentations, public gatherings, and education programs through at least March 31, 2020.
