Los Angeles high school sophomore Zsateau Bouyer has a passion for sprinting, she is ready to improve the school’s track program with her dedication. When the Romans track and field team needed more participants, she urged schoolmates to compete with her.
Washington Prep senior guard Joshua Lee helped the Generals boys’ basketball team get a 16-15 overall record. His contributions to the Generals earned him All-Coliseum League second team honors.
On April 3, the California Interscholastic Federation (CIF) announced that high school sports were canceled for the rest of the school year due to the COVID-19 pandemic. The order terminated all basketball state championship games. Spring sports like track and field, baseball, softball, boy’s tennis and boys’ volleyball were cut short. Senior student athletes face new challenges in the college recruitment process.
Initially, senior Dominique Allen intended to only play basketball for Los Angeles High School. During her years there, she decided to compete in track and field and volleyball and developed a fondness for them.
The King/Drew boys’ basketball team was a dominant force in the City Section with the help of senior Fidelis Okereke. His frontcourt presence on offense and defense made him the Coliseum League Player of the Year.

Senior guard Kailyn Watkins helped give the Crenshaw Cougars girls basketball team a competitive edge this season. Her contributions helped the Cougars get a 22-7 overall record and a perfect 10-0 record in the Coliseum League.
The Pan African Film Festival is the epicenter of Black cinematic storytelling every February. One of the films profiled was “Another Red, White, Black & Blue Odyssey,” a documentary on the ICEF View Park Rugby program.
The CIF City Section Open Division Championships features part three to the storied rivalry showdown for the boys and a division newcomer challenging a former champ for the girls.
After their trip to the state playoffs last year, the Hamilton Yankees girls basketball team have been winning often and by large margins.
Since the beginning of 2020, the King/Drew Golden Eagles boys basketball team has been on a winning streak. With only four losses this season, the Golden Eagles are ranked 35 in the state.
The Gardena Panthers football team ended their rollercoaster season with a victory after defeating the Marquez Gladiators 14-8 in the City Section Division III Championship. Gardena has not won a City Section championship since 2000.
The Manual Arts Toilers advanced to the semifinals of the Division II CIF City Section playoffs after shutting out the Kennedy Cougars 41-0.
The Crenshaw Cougars football team remain undefeated in the Coliseum League play after defeating the Dorsey Dons 51-0 during their Homecoming and Rivalry game. Dorsey made costly turnovers and the Crenshaw offense bested the Dorsey defense.
Sophomore Quinndon Allen is a member of the Los Angeles Romans football team’s young core. Allen has the ability to gain yards through catches and rushes as well as stop the run on defense.
