King/Drew Girls Basketball Thrives With Teamwork

The efforts of the King/Drew boys’ basketball team would get them Coliseum League and City Section honors. The Golden Eagles had a 16-17 overall record and became Coliseum League champions with their 9-1 League record.
The Fairfax Lions defeated the Crenshaw Cougars 74-71 in the first round of the CIF City Section Open Division playoffs. Rebounding and shooting accuracy helped the Lions secure the victory.
Isaiah Harris is a multisport athlete at Washington Prep. He is a wide receiver, wing, and sprinter with plans of also playing baseball.
The Crenshaw boys basketball team won a crucial game against the Washington Prep Generals 75-67. The Cougars now have a 23-2 overall record and an 8-1 Coliseum League record. Crenshaw boys basketball head coach Ed Waters noted how the Cougars were in a three-way tie with King/Drew and Washington Prep. “We’re having kind of a magical season, this was a big game for us,” Waters said. “We took care of business at home.” The Cougars had a six-point run late in the first quarter and kept their momentum going into the next phase. Dorsey senior Cameron Washington has a natural talent when it comes to athleticism. This has helped him be an efficient dual-sport athlete for the Dons, being a linebacker for their football team and a catcher for baseball.
Although he can play multiple sports, Crenshaw junior guard Antoine Robinson enjoys competing in basketball the most. Playing basketball has given him skills that he can apply beyond the court.
LeTroy Pruitt Jr. was excited to be able to compete during his senior year after the pandemic ruined his chances of competing as a junior. This was his first year playing for the Los Angeles Romans football team, he played offensive right guard and defensive nose tackle.
Los Angeles High school junior, Malike Simpson is a key contributor for the football team. In their 44-0 win over Roybal on Friday, he made nine rushes for 119 yards and two touchdowns along with four catches for 104 yards. His efforts earned him Maxpreps Offensive Player of the Game honors.
The Dorsey Dons dominated during their 61-8 homecoming victory over the Locke Saints. This is their first Coliseum league game of the season; the Dons now have a 4-2 overall record.
Despite presenting a strong rushing game, the Crenshaw Cougars lost to the Franklin Panthers 46-35. This was the home opener for the Cougars.
Anyse Grimble recently finished her sophomore season on the Westchester Lady Comets basketball team. Westchester had a 4-5 overall record and 2-3 Western league record.
