Brookins –Kirkland Community AME Church plans to honor Pastor Mary S. Minor with an appreciation service on Sunday, October 16, at 3 p.m., in the sanctuary located at 1900 West 48th St., in Los Angeles.

The theme is “Our Pastor – Dedicated to God, Not Man” based on Colossians 3:23. The program, sponsored by the Steward Board, acknowledges the Rev. Dr. Minor’s spiritual and practical leadership during the past year, said Gregory Robinson, steward pro tem.

“Since Pastor Minor was appointed in October 2015, she has rejuvenated and empowered our congregation with her biblical knowledge, business acumen and passion for community service,” noted Robinson. “We sincerely appreciate her outstanding commitment to Christ and His church.”

Pastor Kelvin T. Calloway, Sr., and the members of Bethel AME Church-L.A. will be the special guests. Dr. Calloway, who will preach at the service, is a long-time friend and mentor to Dr. Minor.

Pastor Minor, who was ordained an AME itinerant elder in 2000, headed three congregations in Southern California before her appointment to Brookins-Kirkland AME Community Church.

Her education includes a Bachelor’s degree from the University of LaVerne, a Master of Arts degree from Claremont School of Theology, a Master of Business Administration from the University of Phoenix and a Doctor of Ministry from United Theological Seminary.

Called to the ministry more than 30 years ago, Calloway led parishes in Alabama, Kansas and California before being appointed to Bethel in 2008. He has an extensive record of academic and business achievements and earned Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees in business administration, two Master of Divinity degrees and a Doctor of Ministry degree.

Also, he is also the president of the board of directors of the Los Angeles Metropolitan Churches, and previously served as a visiting professor of Preaching and Ethics at St. Paul School of Theology in Kansas City, MO, and as a member of the National Advisory Committee for the Last Acts Campaign sponsored by the Robert Woods Johnson Foundation.
