South L.A. residents have a free resource at West Angeles CDC Wellness Center to enhance their mental, physical, and emotional health.

During a soft opening reception on Oct. 17, Dr. Belinda Allen, WACDC executive director, and her staff welcomed community members to tour the temporary facility located at 6028 Crenshaw Blvd., in Los Angeles.

West Angeles Church of God in Christ Pastor Charles Blake II was also on hand along with his wife, Lady DeAndra Blake; his parents, Presiding Bishop Emeritus Charles E. Blake, Sr. and Lady Mae Blake; and his brother, Pastor Lawrence Blake and his family. Other attendees included former L.A. Councilmembers Jan Perry and Mark Ridley-Thomas.

Commenting on the opening of the Wellness Center, Pastor Blake reflected on the growth of WACDC over the years to provide an abundance of free services for the public.

“When my father, Bishop Charles Blake Sr., went to Dr. Lula Ballton with a vision of an organization that would come out of West Angeles church that would meet the needs of the community, beyond that of only charity, I don’t know if they saw how far we would come,” said Pastor Blake.
“When I think of the lives that will be touched – those that will become more healthy both mentally and physically because of what happens here – I’m reminded that God is doing something beautiful here.”

According to Dr. Allen, the Wellness Center offers a range of free service to address stress, anxiety, depression and addiction recovery.

“Our programs, including nutritional management and wellness workshops, promote healthy eating habits and overall physical well-being, which are essential for anyone looking to improve their lifestyle and achieve balanced living,” Allen said.
