Presiding Bishop Emeritus Charles E. Blake, Sr., and Dr. Lula Ballton were honored at the 30-Year Legacy Annual Unity Awards Gala sponsored by West Angeles Community Development Corporation (WACDC) on Friday, Feb. 23,  at the Beverly Regent Hotel in Beverly Hills.

An unsung shero of Los Angeles City is Dr. Belinda Allen, the executive director of the West Angeles Community Development Corporation (WACDC) and vice president of the Los Angeles Affordable Housing Commissioners. She leads the largest African American faith-based community development corporation in America. 

First AME Plans Annual Missionary Day

The Sarah Allen Women’s Missionary Society of First AME Church-Los Angeles, will hold its Annual Missionary Day on Sunday, May 30, at 12 noon.  According to Pastor J. Edgar Boyd, the keynote speaker for the event will be the Rev. Francine Brookins, pastor of Bethel AME Church in Fontana. The virtual service, which honors individuals who have significantly impacted the South L.A. community even during the pandemic, may be viewed online via the church’s website at http://www.firstamechurchla.org. West Angeles CDC Holds 16th Toy Giveaway

Hundreds of families and children attended the 16th annual Toy Giveaway sponsored by West Angeles Community Development Corporation on Dec. 19. The nonprofit organization partnered with Sentinel Peak Resources, an oil company in Inglewood, to provide toys, groceries and other assistance, said Dr. Belinda Allen, WACDC executive director. The mission of the West Angeles CDC is to increase social and economic justice, demonstrate compassion and alleviate poverty as a tangible expression of the Kingdom of God, through the vehicle of community development.  

U.S. Bank Honors West Angeles CDC Executive Director

Dr. Belinda Allen, executive director of West Angeles Community Development Corporation, is being honored as part of the Black History Month observance sponsored by U.S. Bank. “Celebrating Black History Month is an opportunity for us to celebrate the leaders in our communities who we partner with to make a tangible difference,” said Greg Cunningham, vice president, diversity and inclusion for U.S. Bank. The other honorees Jackie Taylor, founder and CEO of Black Ensemble Theater in Chicago; Dr. Eve M. Hall, president of the Milwaukee Urban League; and Linda Harris, senior vice president of the Urban League of Metro St. Louis.

West Angeles CDC Conducts Annual Toy Giveaway

Nearly 300 families and children came out for the 15th annual Toy Giveaway sponsored by West Angeles Community Development Corporation on Dec. 20. More than 300+ people converged at the exhibit hall behind West Angeles Cathedral for the Financial Awareness Investing in Total Health (FAITH) Expo on July 14. Sponsored by the West Angeles Community Development Corporation (WACDC), the event connected South L.A. residents with 50 agencies offering financial services, health and fitness information, wealth building strategies, and asset protection products. West Angeles CDC Continues to Soar with New Leadership

  Dr. Lula Ballton is former CEO of West Angeles CDC and current president of the National Community Development, COGIC, International.
