West Angeles Community Development Corporation is the recipient of a $2 million grant from MacKenzie Scott’s Yield Giving Open Call.

Yield Giving Open Call offered grants to community-led, community-focused organizations whose work advances the voices of community changemakers and opens opportunities to generate meaningful positive change. West Angeles CDC is one of 361 nonprofits to receive an award out of a total of 6,353 applications.

According to Dr. Belinda Allen, WACDC executive director, the nonprofit will use the funds to launch West Angeles CDC’s Wellness Center, which will offer residents of South Los Angeles free professional counseling sessions as well as wellness classes like mindful movement, art therapy, and meditation.

“The Wellness Center is expected to open by October 2024 at West Angeles CDC’s corporate office, located at 6028 Crenshaw Blvd., in Los Angeles, while construction on the Center’s permanent home is completed,” said Allen.

“In 2025, the Wellness Center will permanently occupy the first floor of The Curve at West Angeles, located at 5414 Crenshaw Blvd., in L.A.”
