Larry Doby Jr. on his dad, Larry Doby Sr., the first black player in the American League says: “He knew that if he were successful, it would open doors for others to come after him.” For the record Larry Doby Sr. played in the majors for 13-years and won Hall of Fame Honors. Incidentally Ernie Banks played in the majors for 19-years and never put a foot in a Hall of Fame game. Gene Baker became the Cubs first two black players at the same time.
