“Anchored in an Unchanging Faith Advancing in a Changing World” is the theme of the 51st State Women’s Convention of Southern California First Jurisdiction of the Church of God in Christ.
The event opens Thursday, July 20, and continues through Sunday, July 23, at the Desert Springs J. W. Marriott Resort and Spa, 74855 Country Club Drive in Palm Desert.
Bishop Joe L. Ealy is the jurisdictional prelate, Dr. Barbara McCoo Lewis is the general supervisor/jurisdictional supervisor and president of the convention, and Kathie Humphrey is the convention coordinator.
“Delegates are gathering from all over Southern California and beyond to be refreshed and to receive divine instruction from holy vessels that I prayerfully selected to bless the people. Our Prayer teams are consecrated, 24/7 coverage and strategically praying in various Regions of the Jurisdiction to “usher in” the presence of the Lord,” said Lewis.
“We anticipate the “glory cloud” to be manifested and will engulf the souls seeking him. This kind of atmosphere will break down walls of division, separation, distraction that keep us from getting us closer to God.”
Thursday’s activities include performances by recording artists Lorenzo Johnson and Praizum and keynote addresses by Regional Missionary Delores Leary, Supervisor Dr. Patricia Lewis, Supervisor Barbara Bryant, Evangelist Joyce Rodgers and Evangelist Jacqueline Davis.
On Friday, several workshops will be presented. The topics and facilitators are “Inner Healing,
No More Regrets” – Missionary Claudette Lockhart, “Aspiring Writers Workshop” – Debbie Bennett, “Wise Women Focus on Health” – Dr. Faye Maureen Butler, “Financial Fitness for the Faithful” – Dr. Deborah Pegues, CPA, and Evangelist Sonya Simpson, vice-president of the House of Winston Mortuary Los Angeles. Also, the conference will feature workshops by Missionary Claudette Lockhart, Ms. Debbie Bennett, Dr. Faye Maureen Butler, Dr. Deborah Pegues, and Evangelist Sonya Simpson.
The Auxiliaries will sponsor workshops for all ages. Other highlights include children and youth presentations, Saturday Morning Street Witnessing and Prison Visitation and Children’s Church for all evening sessions.
