Stay-At-Home Order Keeps Public Home Amid COVID-19 Surge

In the midst of the holidays, as Christmas decorations go up, so does the rate of COVID-19 infections. L.A County health officials are seeing their early holiday predications coming to light after Thanksgiving, as many visited with others outside their residences. The result has sent L.A. County into stricter Stay-At- Home order guidelines.

Maternity Care at Kaiser Permanente West Los Angeles Ranks Among the Best in the Nation

West Los Angeles was one of 22 Kaiser Permanente hospitals recognized among the “Best Maternity Care Hospitals 2020” by Newsweek magazine. The elite designation, awarded to only 231 hospitals in the United States, identifies leading maternity care programs based on rigorous quality and safety standards. Kaiser Permanente hospitals represent nearly 10% of those named to the prestigious list nationwide – and 44.4% of those listed in California. 

LADWP Commitment to Fostering Gender Equity Honored by Society of Women Engineers

The Los Angeles Department of Water and Power (LADWP) was honored with two Society of Women Engineers (SWE) “WE Local” awards this month at the WE Local San Diego conference in San Diego, Calif. For People of Color, Gentrification is More a Curse than a Blessing

According to a March 2019 study by the National Community Reinvestment Coalition (NCRC), more than 135,000 Black and Hispanics around the nation were displaced between 2000 and 2012. Gentrification and displacement of long-time residents were most intense from 2000 to 2013 in the nation’s biggest cities, and rare in most other places, according to the study. During those years, gentrification was concentrated in larger cities with vibrant economies but also appeared in smaller cities where it often impacted areas with the most amenities near central business districts.

“Today’s order will protect the lives of asylum seekers who were forced to endure extreme hardship while waiting in dangerous border cities for months for their chance to seek asylum in the United States,” said Erika Pinheiro, AOL director of litigation and policy. “These asylum seekers have a deep commitment to following our laws in seeking protection, and we are relieved to see that their decision to follow our government’s instructions to wait in Mexico will not prejudice their chances for relief.”

Kaiser Invests Over $4Million to Combat Homelessness in SoCal

Kaiser Permanente officials are aiming to become a part of the homeless solution in Southern California with a $4.3 million grant to Los Angeles and San Diego for more affordable and secure homes. Those counties, officials said, have the highest rates of homeless with the least affordable housing. The grant will help to create and preserve 75 affordable and/or permanent supportive housing units in the two areas.

Reportedly, the alleged shooter wanted to kill as many Mexicans as he could.
