A section of MacArthur Park reopened to the public after being closed for more than four months as crews conducted a $1.5 million improvement project with landscape and general park upgrades.
The County of Los Angeles, in partnership with the Vera Institute of Justice, has published an online decarceration dashboard which provides a visual breakdown and analysis of the County’s jail population on a daily basis. The goal of this dashboard is to help policymakers, advocates, and academics better understand the makeup and changes in the population of people in LA County jails in order to craft public policy to safely reduce the jail population.
At the United States Park Police, Chief Pamela Smith will lead a 560-member workforce that protects the public, parks, and the nation’s most iconic landmarks in Washington, D.C., New York City, and San Francisco metropolitan areas.
“Morgan is so proud to call this son and daughter of the great City of Baltimore our own, and through their historic giving, the doors of higher education will most certainly be kept open for generations of aspiring leaders whose financial shortfalls may have kept them from realizing their academic dreams,” David K. Wilson, president of Morgan State University, stated in the release.
This is a coalition between the Los Angeles City Mayor Administration, HACLA, Starry, and Microsoft. The objective is to grow from the tragedies presented from COVID-19. Mayor Garcetti recognized the reach to success can be amplified when there is unity between private sectors and public leadership. There is a lot of work to be done, but this benchmark in digital unity is looking to create a ripple affect across the community and beyond.
Los Angeles continues to see a level of stabilization within the measurements of the community spread. Although that is a step in the right direction, the county still holds a sense of caution over the community. Public officials encourage all Angelenos to try to stay inside as much as possible and there is a need to go outside one must follow physical distancing procedures. The community continues to rally around one another either through nonprofit organizations or individual volunteering. The one way to waiver this storm, is together as one sound body.
Los Angeles public officials disclosed new information surrounding the COVID-19 outbreak. County leadership acknowledged the progress in bending the curve, but they have a steadfast caution for any relapse.
The mayor announced schools in L.A. County can offer on campus services for “small stable cohorts” for k-12 students who need the educational support. Starting September 14, the “cohort approach” is to monitor and observe the adjustment to see what works on a smaller scale before reopening schools. This method is being handled with caution because of the severity of what can go wrong if there was an outbreak among students and faculty.
