Dr. Ron Buckmire Named 2023 SIAM Fellow

Occidental College Professor of Mathematics Ron Buckmire has been named a 2023 Fellow of the Society for Industrial and Applied Mathematics (SIAM), the world’s largest professional association devoted to applied mathematics. 

Council Approves Renaming Rodeo Road Obama Boulevard

City Council President Herb Wesson proposed the name change last year and noted that then-candidate Obama held a campaign rally at Rancho Cienega Recreation Center on Rodeo Road in 2007. The 3.5-mile street runs from near the Culver City border east to Mid-City and is not to be confused with upscale Rodeo Drive in Beverly Hills.

Occidental College Launches Obama Scholarship

Occidental College recently announced the launch of its Barack Obama Scholars Program, saying the full scholarships to be offered will “empower exceptional students committed to the public good” consistent with “the principles President Barack Obama has advanced throughout his life.”

Occidental College Students protest to end racial inequality on campus

  Student protesters at Occidental College occupied a sit-in at the campus’ Arthur G. Coons Administrative Center from November 16 to the 20th, in response to the racial bias at the small college campus. “We decided to do the sit-in because we have seen that in the past seven years the president of our university has never been able to fulfill the lists of demands that students have put forth, especially in concern to Black students,” said Abilasha Bhola, a student organizer for the OXY United for Black Liberation.
