Los Angeles City College was awarded $45,000 in grants by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association to support cinema/television students.
“This generous gift from the Hollywood Foreign Press Association is so generous and comes at a time when our students need it most,” LACC President Mary Gallagher said in a statement. “These grants will continue to provide resources that our students need in order to successfully compete in
the film and television industry.”
All nine colleges of the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) will proudly serve as multi-day Voting Centers in collaboration with the Los Angeles County Registrar of Voters for the November 3, 2020 Presidential General Election. The colleges include: East Los Angeles College; Los Angeles City College; Los Angeles Harbor College; Los Angeles Mission College; Los Angeles Pierce College; Los Angeles Southwest College; Los Angeles Trade-Technical College, Los Angeles Valley College and West Los Angeles College.
The Los Angeles Community College District has reopened enrollment for its College Promise program — which offers free tuition and guaranteed admission to first-time, full-time students – through Sept. 15 for the fall semester.
Special online open enrollment fairs hosted by the nine colleges of the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) will be held 10 a.m. to noon, Wednesday, Aug. 11, 2020. See list below for online links per college.

The head of the Los Angeles Community College District announced today that any of its classes that cannot be converted into an online learning platform when remote instruction begins next Monday will be temporarily postponed until at least May 4 amid the coronavirus crisis.
“The situation is very fluid and may change over the coming days. These measures do not address courses and services that do not lend themselves to an online or remote learning format. There are still many outstanding questions, which we will try to address in the coming days and report on as new developments arise. I am confident that we will all be able to work together to get through the challenging days ahead,” said Angela Echeverri, District Academic Senate President.
Dr. Jeffrey D. Holmes, Los Angeles City College Dean, has been named as one of sixteen researchers from colleges across the nation to participate in the CTE Research Program at North Carolina State University. The program is sponsored by the ECMC Foundation.
The L.A. Clippers showed the youth of Los Angeles how exciting STEM could be with their first ever Clippers Scifest SoCal science festival. The Clippers partnered with the USA Science and Engineering Festival, an organization who hosts the largest science festival in the country in Washington D.C.
Watson Bradfield, a trailblazer in her own right, was born July 22, 1938 into a family of trailblazers. She was the youngest of four children. Her father, William Watson, was one of the first African American police officers in Los Angeles. Her grandfather, Spencer Watson, was a civil rights activist, involved in organizing the pullman porters along with Bayard Rustin. And, her grandmother Belle O’Neal was the surgical nurse who worked on the first open heart surgery with Dr. Clarence Williams in Chicago.
Student organizations throughout the Los Angeles Community College District (LACCD) are organizing a variety of events at the District’s nine colleges in conjunction with National Voter Registration Day on September 25, 2018. The district-wide student voter registration activities are also in response to a call by Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti and the March for Our Lives organization to ensure young people are empowered to let their voices be heard at the ballot box.
The Special Meeting was called for last month when the Board of Trustees, at its regularly scheduled meeting on May 9, approved an appointment process to fill an open seat on the board. Persons interested in seeking the appointment had until May 31 to submit applications. In all, 27 people submitted applications.
