Civil Rights Groups Sue Feds Over Detention of Riverside County Man

Two civil rights groups today sued U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement on behalf of a Riverside County man who allegedly was unlawfully transferred to an ICE immigration lockup for deportation proceedings even though he is a citizen. Asian Americans Advancing Justice-Asian Law Caucus and the ACLU Foundation of Northern California filed the federal lawsuit in Los Angeles on behalf of Brian Bukle, 62, of Corona. The lawsuit alleges that state corrections officials handed Bukle over to ICE on June 17, 2020, at a time when immigration detention centers were in the midst of a coronavirus outbreak. LA Police Commission to Consider Department’s Proposed 12% Budget Increase

The Los Angeles Police Commission tomorrow will consider a proposed budget increase of $213 million, or 12.11%, in the 2022-23 fiscal year, but the City Council and mayor have final approval. The increase would take the department’s operating budget from $1.761 billion to $1.974 billion.
