KCBS/KCAL & L.A. Sentinel Partner to Launch Black News Stories  

The Los Angeles Sentinel and KCBS/KCAL has launched a historical new Black news segment for Los Angeles viewers.  Beginning July 21, the KCBS/KCAL News team started airing L.A. Sentinel Community Insider on Thursdays at 10:45 a.m. on “KCAL News with Amy Johnson.”  

FAME Celebrates 150 Years of Service

First African Methodist Episcopal Church of Los Angeles prides itself as being the church of the people.  Lead by Pastor J. Edgar Boyd, the congregation and their leadership got a chance to take a bow on Friday, June 30 at the Taglyan Complex in Hollywood. 

Legends Awards Salute Trailblazing Black Women

The Black Women Legends Awards will be presented to five accomplished African Americans at the “Power, Leadership and Influence of the Black Woman” luncheon on April 15. The achievements of the recipients are equaled by the attainments of the women for whom the Black Women Legends Awards are named – described as trailblazers who broke down barriers. 

Yvonne Wheeler Elected New President of L.A County Federation of Labor 

Yvonne Wheeler was elected the new president of the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, AFL-CIO (LA Fed) on Nov. 21. The historic unanimous vote by her peers makes Wheeler the first Black woman to hold the title and makes her one of the most influential people in Los Angeles politics.
