The family of an unarmed Black man shot by county sheriffs in Compton joined the Cochran Firm in a press conference June 20, in the wake of a recently released video documenting the incident. 24-year-old Ryan Twyman’s family said that the video made it clear that their loved one was murdered. What’s worse, they said, is the possibility that nothing will be done.

Reward Renewed Re Compton Man Gunned Down in SUV with Family

The Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors renewed a $10,000 reward today for information leading to whoever gunned down a 22-year-old man as he rode in an SUV with his brother and other family members in Compton. Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas recommended extending the reward in the shooting death of Gerardo Macias. It was set to expire July 14 and will now be available for at least the next 90 days. Growing up, my family didn’t celebrate Father’s Day. My parents divorced, after nine years of marriage, when I was six-years old. My father was distant during the marriage, and he became even more estranged afterwards. When my father was convicted of murder and received a life sentence, it became solidified in my mind that I probably wouldn’t ever celebrate Father’s Day. City of Compton Election Results

The City of Compton held its elections for District 1 and 4 for council district seats on Tuesday, June 4.

As of press-time, Michelle Chambers took home the victory winning the election, defeating incumbent Janna Zurita by a large margin of 65 percent of the votes for the District 1 seat.

Congresswoman Barragán Hosted Town Hall Meeting on Compton Potholes

Congresswoman Nanette Diaz Barragán (CA-44) hosted a community town hall regarding residents’ concerns over the growing number of potholes in Compton. During the town hall, Rep. Barragan questioned panelists from the state, county and city regarding funding sources, including Measure “P” and the progress of street repairs in Compton and Unincorporated Compton. Although street repairs are the responsibility of state and local officials, it is among the top issues reported to our office. The children were so excited to meet Skai and share with her how, because of No Kid Hungry, they’re able to start their day off on the right foot – by having a delicious breakfast. At a news conference, Wells Fargo, NeighborWorks® America and its network member, Neighborhood Housing Services of Los Angeles County will announce the expansion of a multi-million dollar collaboration to boost homeownership. The NeighborhoodLIFT® program will offer $25,000 down payment assistance grants and homebuyer education for eligible Los Angeles County homebuyers.
