Earlier this month, Crenshaw High School football coach Robert Garrett won the 2017 Don Shula NFL High School Coach of the Year. The Don Shula award is given to a coach who shows outstanding leadership to players during games and for their lives.
The Cougars will battle the Hamilton Yankees for the Division II title on Friday, March 2 at Roybal High School at 6:00P.M.
The invitational will be from February 19-25. The Knights won back-to-back CIF City Section Championships in their first two seasons.
Simms has a 3.16 GPA and is taking A.P. Calculus. The challenges the class presents has not deterred Simms from his interest in math.

The Crenshaw Cougars football team concluded their season with a state championship and CIF accolades. Seven players were named on the CIF All-City Open Division first team, including senior quarterback Isaiah Johnson, senior linebacker Patrick Willis Jr. and sophomore defensive back Jared Greenfield. Five players were named on the Open Division second team. The Crenshaw Cougars outlasted the Placer Hillmen 34-31 in the Division 4AA State Championship. Placer touted the strong talent of senior fullback Mario Perez and junior linebacker Marshall Chapman. Crenshaw battled with senior running backs Solomon Hassen and Shawn Prejean.
