Author and theologian Dr. Osmond A. Lindo Sr., will be honored as ‘Man of the Year’ during the Fathers’ Day Dinner and Concert on Sunday, June 21, at 4 p.m., at Hollypark United Methodist Church, 13000 South Van Ness Avenue in Gardena. Smith was regularly in my life. In my eyes, he was a hero and no man could compare to him. More than a century of living has not slowed down the Rev. Dr. Whalen Samuel Jones, who celebrated his 106th birthday on June 7. The handsome centenarian still speaks with godly wisdom, attends church on a regular basis, and shares his time and talents as pastor emeritus of Messiah Baptist Church in Los Angeles, the congregation he founded in 1954.
