To help meet the increased demand for highly-trained nurses and essential healthcare workers in medically-underserved areas like South Los Angeles, Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital (MLKCH) announced it has received a half million dollar grant from Bank of America to expand its healthcare worker career programs.

Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Hospital recently announced the launch of the Know Your Basics Community Wellness Campaign on Nov. 22 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m. The six-month campaign will provide health screenings and enrollment events at 23 grocery stores, barber shops and beauty salons, farmers’ markets, shopping centers and senior centers throughout the South Los Angeles community. The venues will provide health education, screenings and referral resources to educate the community about their health and assist residents with enrollment in health coverage programs. MLKCH’s goal is to empower community residents to take control of their health and wellness

Elected Officials Lock Arms to Advocate for Community Hospital Funding 

The financial threat facing Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Healthcare has been reduced, thanks to state supplemental funding secured after local elected officials sounded the alarm of a possible closure, which would have negatively impacted residents throughout South L.A. and surrounding neighborhoods.
