This week, Assemblymember Mike A. Gipson (D-Carson), Chair of the Assembly Select Committee on Police Reform, held a hearing regarding the Peace Officer Bill of Rights (POBR). The discussion included experts in academia, a civil rights attorney whose firm represents families of George Floyd and Breonna Taylor, counsel of rank and file officers, as well as police chiefs.

 “Today’s announcement that Louisville, Kentucky Officer Brett Hankison was not charged in the wrongful death of Breonna Taylor, 26, but for ‘wonton endangerment in the 1st degree’ was the wrong decision by the Grand Jury. Additionally, the other two officers involved were not charged at all.

Assemblymember Gipson Hosts Tele-Townhall To Discuss COVID-19 Concerns

Assembly Democratic Caucus Chair and 64th District Assemblymember Mike Gipson hosted a tele-townhall for stakeholders and constituents to discuss the growing concerns of the Coronavirus outbreak. On the call, he was joined by Dr. Sheila Young of Charles Drew University and other guests from the Governor’s office and healthcare community to discuss what the state is doing to help California residents as well as share available resources within the 64th district.
