Blues For An Alabama Sky, written by Pearl Cleage and directed by Sheldon Epps, starring Robin Givens, Kadeem Hardison, Kevin T. Carroll, Tessa Thompson and Robert Ray Manning, Jr., opened at the Pasadena Playhouse November 6 and will play through November 27, 2011.

This play is excellent packed with love, friendship, social politics and tragedy. Against the backdrop of 1930’s Harlem, five characters navigate through their lives looking for themselves but find each other.

Givens gives a highly enjoyable performance as the tortured Angel. She gives Angel levels and degrees of emotion, which play excitingly well with her co-stars.

Carroll gives a riveting performance as Guy and manages to steal almost every scene.

Hardison and Thompson both portray enchanting characters, in different ways, that manage to draw in the audience.

Manning presents a character, who garners deeper questions about the themes and points of the play.

An outstanding cast gives and outstanding performance with social issues and circumstance that are still relevant to this very day. Blues For An Alabama Sky is definitely a play worth seeing.
