Leimert Park Jazz Festival 2020: The Virtual Experience

Anyone who knows Attorney Diane Robertson will not be surprised that a global pandemic can’t keep her signature event, the Leimert Park Jazz Festival, from taking place this year. Robertson is a force of nature when it comes to organizing, advocacy and building community.  And, while gathering in the heart of Los Angeles’ Black community won’t be possible this year, she has decided that the show must go on — online. 

Malik B, founding member of The Roots, has died at 47

Malik B, whose real name is Malik Abdul Basit, was a major contributor to the group, which includes Ahmir “Questlove” Thompson and Tariq “Black Thought” Trotter. He appeared on four albums before departing the group in 1999. The group won its first Grammy the following year.

Furloughed Employee Sues Live Nation for Racial & Gender Discrimination

Newman believes she was practically terminated due to her grievances about being discriminated against in the Live Nation workplace. Newman alleges that Live Nation did not show their support with her grievances; instead, she claims that the global entertainment company negated her complaints, and then cut her loose with coronavirus-related staff reductions to cite as the excuse to relieve the company of the complaint.

New Trailer and Poster from Visual Album “BLACK IS KING” A Film by Beyoncé now Available

Today, Parkwood Entertainment and Disney+ released the new trailer and poster for “Black Is King,” a film by 24-time GRAMMY® Award-winner Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, which will premiere globally on July 31, 2020, streaming on Disney+. The new film based on the music of “The Lion King: The Gift,” will premiere two weeks after the one-year anniversary of the theatrical release of Disney’s global phenomenon, “The Lion King.” The film reimagines the lessons from the 2019 blockbuster for today’s young kings and queens in search of their own crowns.
