Despite COVID-19 Pandemic, Bakewell Media & Hyundai Celebrate

On Saturday, October 17, the Taste of Soul family festival, despite of the current COVID-19 pandemic, found a way to bring the energy, spirit, love, essence, and tradition of the beloved festival with the Virtual Taste of Soul Experience, a three-hour program hosted by comedic actress, Kym Whitley, whose beautiful personality and talent was a major highlight of the show. The show was loaded with soulful musical performances from classic R&B, old-school rap, and gospel artists, with community panels, and segments empowering and supporting Black-owned restaurants.

When you get your California election ballot soon – that’s if you don’t have it already –expect to see Kanye West’s name on it.  

The 43-year-old rapper and business mogul is on the California ballot as the candidate for vice president on the American Independent Party (AIP) ticket. The presidential candidate on the AIP ticket is San Diego-based Mexican American businessman Roque “Rocky” De La Fuente Guerra.

Judge Again Upholds $107 Million Judgment Against Record Producer

 A Los Angeles judge once again today upheld a $107 million judgment against imprisoned former rap mogul Marion “Suge” Knight and Death Row Records, which was awarded back in 2005. 
   Over the objection of Lydia Harris, the woman who obtained the original judgment and later agreed with Knight that it should be voided, Superior Court Judge David Sotelo said he would not reconsider his December decision to reinstate the judgment or his March decision to affirm that ruling. 

Kool & the Gang co-founder Ronald ‘Khalis’ Bell dies at 68

Ronald “Khalis” Bell, a co-founder, singer and producer of the group Kool & the Gang, has died. He was 68.

Bell died at his home in the U.S. Virgin Islands Wednesday morning with his wife by his side, publicist Sujata Murthy said. The cause of death has not been released.

The universal order of sacred and secular music ministry has lost one of its mightiest messengers upon the passing of DeWayne Julius Rogers, better known as singer/songwriter/producer “D.J. Rogers.” The music hero to many died of heart failure at age 72. The very first song on his very first self-titled album in 1973 declared, “Listen to the Message.” And through his divinely scribed works of sumptuous melody, driving rhythm and inspirational rhyme, D.J. lifted spirits, tuned minds to higher planes, mentored the next generation and saved many a life…including his own.

Suspect in Jam Master Jay killing pleads not guilty

A man eyed for years as a possible suspect in the 2002 fatal shooting of hip-hop pioneer Jam Master Jay pleaded not guilty at his arraignment on Tuesday, and remained in federal custody where he is already serving a prison sentence for robbery. 

Ronald Washington, 56, entered his plea remotely from Kentucky, while his attorney and the government’s lawyers appeared by teleconference because of coronavirus concerns. 

Washington and Karl Jordan Jr., 36, face a mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years in prison and a maximum of life in prison, or the death penalty if convicted of murder in the death of Jason “Jay” Mizell, known professionally as Jam Master Jay.
