The Cynthia Perry Ray Foundation (CPRF), an outreach of the Gardena Valley & Vicinity Ministers’ Wives and Widows Sisterhood Connection, will celebrate their 15th anniversary at the group’s 6th Annual Awards Musical Luncheon.
The event takes place on Saturday, April 23, at 12 p.m., at the Holiday Inn Gateway Hotel, 19800 S. Vermont Avenue in Torrance. Advance paid reservations are required.
“The theme, “Investing in Our Future,” focuses on youth ages 12 to 17 and several young people are expected to attend. A component of CPRF’s Witness 2 Fitness Health and Wellness Program emphasizes adolescent health and wellness awareness,” said Dr. Kathye Jenkins, CPRF founder.
Information and materials to educate youth about good health will be available at the luncheon. Exhibitors include Healthy African American Families, National Kidney Foundation, Arthritis Foundation (a great number in this age range suffer from arthritis), HIV/AIDS, Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD), Diabetes Association and The CLINIC.
Also, several people and organizations will be recognized for their civic engagement. The honorees are Ms. Rachal Axel, Deaconess Alfreda L. Hunter, Ms. Rietta Johnson, Mr. Sidney Menzies, Lady Carmel M. Miller, Pastor Nate Session, Mrs. Patricia A. Thornton and Ms. Gabriella “Gabby” Vasquez.
“Ms. Angele Price and Ms. Mireya A. Chaffee of the Arthritis Foundation will be saluted for their outstanding collaboration with the CPRF during this past year on bringing awareness of this malady to our communities,” said Jenkins.
“The Gloria G. Taylor Book Scholarship will be presented to Christin L. Henderson of Bethel AME Church and the Rev. David T. Tolliver of St. John Baptist Church.”
Music will be provided by Pastor Rodney Nichols, Pastor Prentiss Lewis and Pastor Nathan Kimbrough accompanied by Minister John Mayfield IV and Mr. Brian Jenkins, Sr.
Mrs. Michelle T. Jones is the luncheon chair, Dr. Sandra Scranton-Lee is the scholarship chair and Mrs. Carolyn A. Faulkner is the Sisterhood Connection president.
