The members of Curry Temple CME Church plan a welcome reception for their new pastor, the Rev. Joseph C. Gardner, Sr., who was recently appointed by Bishop Bobby Best, presiding prelate of the Ninth Episcopal District of the CME Church.
The event will be held on Sunday, November 15, following the 10:30 a.m. worship service, in the edifice located at 322 W. Rosecrans Avenue in Compton.
Gardner has led several CME parishes in Southern California including Phillips Chapel in Santa Monica, Brown Chapel in Santa Ana and Hays Tabernacle in Los Angeles. Also, he served congregations in Mississippi, Colorado, Kansas, Missouri, Indiana, Tennessee, Georgia, and Illinois.
In the CME denomination, Gardner is a member of the denomination’s General Board and the Department of Finance. His other affiliations are president of the Los Angeles District Board of Christian Education, board member of the Los Angeles Council of Black Churches and trustee for the Phillips School of Theology.
A graduate of Lane College in Jackson, TN, Pastor Garner earned a Master of Divinity degree at Phillips School of Theology in Atlanta, GA.
