On Sunday, April 2, Curry Temple Stewardess Board/Ministry celebrated in love, faith, and praise to God for 62 years of service.  The organization also saluted the outstanding leadership of their president, Stewardess Mable Burns, a 102-years-old Christian servant.

According to the Rev. Dr. Phillip D. Washington, pastor of Curry Temple and L.A. District presiding elder, “Mother Burns has served many, many tireless years as president.  She is a true and committed leader and an effective role model with her Stewardess Board in their work for Christ.”

Pastor Washington presented a floral bouquet to Mother Burns on behalf of the congregation. Also, Sister Leontyne White rendered a musical tribute by the Stewardess president by singing “Wind Beneath My Wings.”

The theme for the program was “Called To Serve” based on Ephesians 4:4-7.  The guest preacher was the Rev. Thomas Benjamin, pastor of Greater Phillips Chapel CME Church in Compton.   Pastor Thomas is well-known for his powerful, spirit-filled messages.  Other guests included the members of Stewardess Boards/Ministries of CME churches located throughout the Los Angeles County.

Pastor Washington called the program to order and introduced the worship leader, Curry Temple Stewardess Wilma Washington.  The service consisted of musical selections by the Curry Temple choir and the Greater Phillips choir.  The Scripture was read by Sister Robin Moten, followed by a welcome address delivered by Sister Diana Winton.

When the service concluded, one Curry Temple Stewardess remarked, “It was a a spirit-filled celebration with all praise and thanks to our awesome God.   What a blessing from God to celebrate 62 years in serving the Communion table of the Lord, while serving the poor, and serving our Pastors, and working in unity with all our CME Stewardess Boards, and being grateful to be a Stewardess that is “Called to Serve” – serving His people for His glory, His faithfulness, and for His kingdom!”
