The Rev. Willie B. Boyd, Jr., the newly appointed pastor of Lewis Metropolitan CME Church and presiding elder of the Los Angeles – San Diego District, will be one several dynamic speakers proclaiming The Word at the 91st Session of the Southern California Annual Conference of the AME Church (SCAC). He will preach on Thursday, October 22, at 7 p.m., at the Men’s Witness Night service at the Hilton Los Angeles Airport, 5711 W. Century Boulevard. Open to the public, the service is among the official activities, convened by the Rt. Reverend T. Larry Kirkland, presiding prelate of the Fifth Episcopal District, which includes SCAC.
Under this year’s theme, “Rebuilding the Walls,” thousands of conference delegates, clergy, missionaries, laity, youth and young adults, will participate in business meetings, educational sessions and worship services designed to strengthen their faith and equip them for continued service in God’s kingdom.
AME clergy and leaders from throughout the Fifth District will join SCAC attendees for the annual planning meeting on October 26 and 27. Both sessions will be led by Bishop Kirkland, with Pastor J. Edgar Boyd and First AME Church of Los Angeles serving as host.
This will be the last annual conference convened by Bishop Kirkland as head of the 5th District, prior to his scheduled retirement in the summer of 2016.
Other worship service speakers include Pastor John Cager of Ward AME, who delivered the sermon at the Opening Service on October 20 and Bishop Kirkland, who will preach at the Closing Worship and Commissioning Service on Sunday, October 25 at 3 p.m. The Bishop will also conduct the ordination of deacons and elders in the SCAC.
The public is invited to attend. All events will be held at the Hilton.
