The Department of Women of California Southwest Jurisdiction will convene their 55th Annual Women’s Convention on Monday, August 10, through Friday, August 14, at New Jerusalem Church of God in Christ, 420 South Santa Fe Avenue in Compton.

Mother Joan Walker is the jurisdictional supervisor of women and president of the Convention. Bishop Hillrie Murphy is the jurisdictional prelate and Dr. William Atlas is the host pastor.

The theme for the convention is ‘An Urgent Call to Committed Holy Women’ based on Jeremiah 9:17. The agenda features the pre-convention musical on Monday under the direction of Dr. Iris Stevenson McCullough and the music department. On Tuesday at 10 a.m., the convention officially opens with Morning Glory Prayers followed by the Leadership Conference at 11 a.m., facilitated by District Missionary Lula Clark. A symposium will be held on Thursday morning.

Activities from Tuesday through Thursday include the Institute Hour directed by Dr. Tommie Greer at 6:30 p.m., and worship service at 8 p.m. The speakers are District Missionary Shirley Kingsby, District Missionary El Marie Brumfield and Evangelist Viola Moore, respectfully. Also, Supervisor Walker will deliver her official message on Thursday.

On Friday at 11 a.m., the President‘s Banquet honoring Supervisor Walker takes place at the Proud Bird Restaurant, 11022 Aviation Blvd in Los Angeles. Bishop Murphy will preach on Friday at 7:30 p.m.
