On Sunday, May 5, the California Southwest Jurisdiction of the Church of God in Christ, Inc., celebrated and installed Elder Cecil Thompson as the lead pastor of the Glory Church Los Angeles. Glory Church is under the jurisdictional leadership of Bishop Hillrie Murphy and the international leadership of Presiding Bishop J. Drew Sheard. The service was held at the 88th Street Temple Church of God in Christ under the leadership of Superintendent Anthony Williams.
Leaders from everywhere came together for this momentous occasion in an interdenominational effort to support Pastor Thompson. Notable guests included Dr. Judith McAllister, Dr. Iris Stevenson McCullough, Dr. Myron Williams, Dr. Melvin V. Wade, Dr. Calvin B. Rhone, Bishop Cynthia Turner, Bishop Ulysses Henderson, and Pastor Gary Sprewell.
It is not a coincidence that this installation carried a significant magnitude as Pastor Cecil’s influence has had a great impact on the church community, both locally and nationally, before this appointment. As a multifaceted gifted individual, he has been a young staple in the ecumenical and civic community since his teens.
Also, he has been recognized for using both his musical and preaching gifts to serve churches at large in several capacities. One participant said, “Cecil’s ability and adaptability has made him a tremendous asset to the church as a whole.”
Musically, he has served as minister of music at countless churches as well as worked tirelessly with youth and young adults in the Crenshaw Elite Choir, Gospel Musical Workshop of America L.A. Chapter, Celestial Voices Chorale, and most recently as a director of the International Youth Choir of the Church Of God In Christ, Inc.
As a preacher, he has been sought after in this region for countless revivals and conferences pouring into young people. His preaching gift was simultaneously cultivated while
serving alongside his father, the late Bishop Miquail Broadous, at the Grace Temple Baptist Church. After his father’s passing, he was ordained by both the late Dr. E.V. Hill II and Pastor Anthony Williams where he also served as the youth pastor of 88th Street Temple COGIC.
In the civic arena, Pastor Cecil works for the Los Angeles Mission as a chaplain advocating for the homeless community. In 2013, he played a vital role in Professor Iris Stevenson McCullough being reinstated as a music teacher at Crenshaw High School. In 2019, he founded Cecil Thompson Ministries, which has evolved into Glory Church of Los Angeles.
Pastor Cecil continues to keep the principles of servanthood alive in his efforts to move the kingdom forward. He is the young age of 35 and is the father of one daughter, Kennedy Grace.
