Barack Obama Global Preparation Academy open house and ribbon cutting – 6th grade students Myles Kennedy-Tatum and Julissa Ceja offer perspectives on their first day of school. The 1400-student middle school, located on 46th and Western Avenue, is one of three newly constructed schools that opened September 13 within LAUSD Board Member Marguerite Poindexter LaMotte’s District. On hand for the occasion were Senator Curren Price, Supervisor Mark Ridley-Thomas, former LAUSD Board Member Rita Walters and representatives from the offices of Congresswoman Diane Watson and Councilman Bernard Parks. Other Board District 1 openings were also held at Dr. Owen Lloyd Knox Elementary School (located on 89th and Main Streets) and Carson-Gore Academy of Environmental Studies, (located on Washington Boulevard and Arlington).
