L.A. Urban League President/CEO Cynthia Mitchell-Heard will headline the honorees at the 46th Annual Scholarship Awards and Fundraiser Luncheon sponsored by the 10th Council District Women’s Steering Committee.
The popular event, which is open to the public, is set for Saturday, June 29, at 11 a.m., at the L.A. City Club, located on the 51st floor at 555 S. Flower St., in downtown Los Angeles.
The theme is “Embracing and Inspiring the Future via Education – Women – Diversity.”

The program will also recognize the contributions of Brent F. Burton, retired L.A. County Fire Captain; Sarah Harris, president/CEO of the Black Business Association; Claudette Robinson, first lady of Motown Records; and Synthia SAINT JAMES, noted artist, author and educator.
Ashley Mackey, ABC7 Eyewitness News community journalist, will be the emcee and Mark Allen Felton and DJ Quick will provide the entertainment. The Rev. Helena Titus, presiding elder of the Western States of the Global Methodist Church, will deliver the invocation.
“This promises to be one of the most outstanding luncheons that the 10th Council District WSC has ever sponsored,” said Jacqueline Nunn, WSC president. “Not only will we salute the outstanding achievements of these five community leaders, but also five high school seniors will receive $1,000 scholarships.
“The scholarships are named for David S. Cunningham, Jr., the WSC founder; lifetime members Johnabel Gentry, Geneva Cox, Gladys Wesson, Alicia Salazar, and our presenting sponsors,” said Nunn, who added that the event also includes a silent fine arts auction, vendor booths and an opportunity drawing.
