Riding the Waves of Inflation: Supporting Black-Owned Restaurants in Tough Times 

At the end of last year, a far too common trend was the closure of Los Angeles restaurants. Well known, celebrated casual, and fine-dining restaurants in our city’s world renowned culinary scene closed their doors. Some restaurant owners pointed to higher labor costs, inflation, the on-going strike in Hollywood, and the downstream effect of the pandemic. 

National Urban League CEO Celebrates New LAUL President  

National Urban League President/CEO Marc H. Morial is on a high note, but isn’t he always. Coming fresh off the success of his new critically-acclaimed HBO documentary, “Gumbo Coalition,” aptly named for his energetic leadership style and the title for the most recent version of his book, “The Gumbo Coalition: 10 Leadership Lessons That Help You Inspire, Unite, and Achieve,” the former New Orleans mayor who also served as president of the U.S. Conference of Mayors made a landmark visit to Los Angeles to celebrate the Los Angeles Urban League’s newly installed President & CEO Cynthia Mitchell-Heard.  

Cynthia Mitchell Heard Named President and CEO of the Los Angeles Urban League

The Los Angeles Urban League (LAUL) proudly announces the appointment of Cynthia Mitchell Heard as its new President and CEO effective January 1, 2023. Heard will become the first woman to assume this leadership role since Katherine Barr, the LAUL’s President in the late 1920s until 1931, and she is charged to advance the work and legacy of the civil rights and service organization improving the lives of its members and Los Angeles overall for more than a century.
